About the Word Counter
The Word Counter shows the size of your text as you type or paste it. It counts words, characters with and without spaces, sentences and paragraphs, and estimates reading time at 200 words per minute and speaking time at 130 words per minute. The most used words are listed too, with common short words removed. Your text is saved in your browser, so it is still there when you come back.
How to use it
- Paste your text. Type or paste text into the box on the page.
- Watch the counts update. Words, characters, sentences and paragraphs update live as you type.
- Check the reading time. Reading time is based on 200 words per minute. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute.

How is the word count calculated?
Words are counted by splitting the text on spaces, so "don't stop" counts as two words.
Does the character count include spaces?
It shows both: characters with spaces and characters without spaces.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time uses 200 words per minute, a common average for adults. Speaking time uses 130 words per minute.
